Datalab is PCM Exclusive B2B Data Recovery Provider

Negotiations began at the end of 2015 when it was announced that PCM (formerly known as PC Mall) bought at auction the TigerDirect and Global Gov/Ed brands from Systemax for $14 millions in one of the biggest business acquisition of the year.  The transaction involved the TigerDirect.com website along with its profitable business to business division which .

TigerDirect is (still) a consumer electronics retailer that sells products directly to the customer through its website and catalog.  It successfully expanded the business by investing heavily in its business to business division.  Toward the end of Circuit City’s lifespan, the former electronics storefront giant was absorbed into TigerDirect after being purchased by Systemax in 2009, interestingly enough for the same $14 million price tag.

This deal pushes  PCM, which earlier last year acquired for $393 million solution provider En Pointe and for $111 million, Canadian MSP Acrodex, into the ranks of the biggest of players in North America.  This deal opened the door for PCM to hire and expand to approximately 400 Systemax B2B  sales reps across the U.S. and Canada.  It also gives PCM the rights to the Systemax North American Technology Group’s B2B customer list and vendor contracts, trademarks and other intellectual property rights.

PCM has launched a drive into higher-margin services over the last year under the leadership of a beefed-up management team. The executive additions started one year ago with the hiring of of former Ingram Micro executive Jay Miley as president, a position previously held by Khulusi.

“We believe PCM is a natural fit for our B2B employees and their customers,” said Systemax Chairman and CEO Richard Leeds. “Moving forward, this will allow us to devote all of our time and resources on our other businesses and improve their competitive position to capitalize on their growth opportunities.”

Formerly, Datalab and TigerDirect’s Systemax had a business relationship for more than 15 years.  Datalab was its exclusive data recovery provider for all its stores all over United States, Canada and Puerto Rico since the CompUSA and Circuit City times.   Even though times weren’t bright for Tiger’s retail operations, both online and business-to-business divisions were growing to the point of counting with more than 400 business to business agents.

With PCM acquiring those two powerhouses, it was pretty clear that PCM turned into a force to be reckoned with in the business to business technology sales sphere.  Fortunate for Datalab, PCM decided to count on Datalab as its exclusive and preferred data recovery provider for its customers.  This decision was based on Datalab’s high success rate and fair pricing that when compared with other companies in the industry is less than half than other companies.
